I just want to start this post off by saying I'm not writing this to try and tell you or convince you to go vegetarian or vegan. I writing to ask those of you who are vegan or who have tried it for some info and insight. That being said, I recently was send a video that really got me thinking. I am currently a vegetarian so that means I don't eat meat but I do eat dairy products. I made the decision to go vegetarian about 7 years ago when I was doing some reading/research on natural foods and just diet in general. I came across some pretty disturbing things (which I won't mention, don't worry) and since then I have been completely turned of meat. This video I was telling you about has really gotten to me and I can't seem to shake it. I called up a friend of mine, who is vegan, and asked her if she could suggest any good books or sites on the topic. She suggested a few that she had and offed to lend them, so I am currently reading up on the subject but I want a little more. I am having a hard time with this decision because it's a little over whelming. It's not as simple as "I'm going to be a vegetarian so I'm not going to eat meat" there are dairy products in everything and there is so much more to learn. I realize there are replacements for almost every it's just the first little bit of figuring things out that looks like it will be the really tough part. So If any of my readers are vegan or have tried it out and can offer any good advise, books, or sites on the topic I'd love to hear from you.
I hope you all have a good Tuesday! Don't forget to stop in tomorrow for Wonderful Wednesday and Thursday for Creating Community and meet some new friend and find new blogs.

I've been a vegetarian for 12 years and I was vegan for about a year and a half. Being vegan was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I literally had to make an Excel spreadsheet to make sure I was getting all of my nutrients each day. It was expensive and time consuming. However, I know I was eating healthier. My problem is that I am anemic AND I work long hours. So, I ended up making myself sick. Someday I would love to try it again and do it right. PETA's website has a really good list of truly vegan products because there are sooo many things out there that are not technically vegan that you think would be. Vegan with a Vengence is a great cookbook and gives you a list of what you need to start your vegan kitchen.

I tried vegan last year. It was too hard for me to keep up with. I love cheese too much. Also, like you said, there is milk and dairy added to so much in the marketplace. I have not had any meat at all and only occasionally eat fish or shrimp. I am sure you have read Veganist already. Try looking at the PCRM website. Good Luck! Keep us updated! Stacie xo
